  • Pre-assembled: slot in one spar and it’s ready

  • Ripstop sail: a small tear won’t spread

Skylark is a single-line delta kite with a 120 cm wingspan, a ripstop polyester sail printed with a skylark, and a 3-metre tail. It comes almost ready to fly: slot the cross spar into its pockets, clip on the line, and go.

Why a delta for children

Delta kites are the most forgiving shape there is. They lift in light wind, they’re stable without fiddly adjustments, and they don’t need running to launch. A five-year-old can hold the handle while a parent lets go, and that first moment when the line goes tight in their hands is the whole point.

Wind and where to fly

Skylark flies in wind from about 10 to 30 km/h: leaves moving on the trees, flags flying out. Pick an open space away from trees, roads and power lines: a beach, a field or a big park. The 30 m line is long enough for the kite to fly properly, and short enough for a child to wind back in.

Built to crash

Kites crash, especially the first ten times. The spars are flexible fibreglass, which bends instead of snapping, and the ripstop sail has a grid woven into it that stops a small tear from running. The storage sleeve keeps the kite and line together in a car boot. If a spar does break, any 6 mm fibreglass rod from a kite or hobby shop fits.

Questions about Skylark Kite

What is the easiest kite for a child to fly?

A single-line delta. It lifts in light wind, stays stable without adjustments and can be launched standing still. Skylark is a 120 cm delta designed for children from five.

How much wind does a kite need?

Skylark flies in light to moderate wind, roughly 10 to 30 km/h, when leaves and small branches move and flags fly out straight. Below that it won’t lift; above that it pulls hard for small hands.

Where should children fly a kite?

In a large open space with no trees, roads or power lines nearby, such as a beach or a field. Never fly near overhead cables or in a thunderstorm.
